Simplified homA-vidhAnaM

oM gaM gaNapataye namaH X 4 tarpaNaM

He first kindles the fire on the sthaNDila with formula:

kravyAdam agniM pra hiNomi dUraM yamarAj~no gaChatu ripravAhaH |
ihaivAyam itaro jAtavedA devebhyo havyaM vahatu prajAnan || (RV 10.16.9)

He then sprinkles water around the fire with the formula:

OM pAvaka vaishvAnara idamAsanaM araNIgarbha saMskR^ita ||

Then his consciousness expands (chit) flows out through his forehead and enters the fire and as this happens he utters the formula:

OM tejorUpa mahAbrahman muhUrtAs-triShu vaishvAnaraM pratibodhayAmi ||

Then he endows the fire with “consciousness” with the formula:

OM vaishvAnaro na Utaya A pra yAtu parAvataH | agnir naH suShTutIr [svadyutIr] upa ||
pR^iShTo divi pR^iShTo agniH pR^ithivyAM pR^iShTo vishvA oShadhIrA vivesha |
vaishvAnaraH sahasA pR^iShTo agniH sa no divA sa riShaH pAtu naktam || [ AV-S 6.35.1+RV 1.98.2]

Then he offers the following oblations to the deities:
oM prajApataye svAhA | oM somAya svAhA | oM bR^ihaspataye svAhA | oM agniShomAbhyAM svAhA | oM indrAgnIbhyAM svAhA | oM dyAvApR^ithivIbhyAM svAhA
oM indrAya svAhA | oM vishvebhyo devebhyaH svAhA | oM brahmaNe svAhA | oM adbhyaH svAhA | oM oShadhi-vanaspatibhyaH svAhA | oM grahAbhyaH svAhA | oM deva-devatAbhyaH svAhA | oM indrAya svAhA | oM indra-puruShebhyaH svAhA | oM yamAya svAhA | oM yama-puruShAya svAhA | oM sarvebhyo bhUtebhyo divAchAribhyaH svAhA | oM svadhApitR^ibhyaH svAhA [touch water] | oM ye bhUtAH pracharanti divA-naktaM baliM ichChanti vitudasya preShyAH | tebhyo baliM puShTi-kAmo dadAmi mayi puShTiM puShTipatir dadAtu svAhA [touch water]|
oM AchANDAlapatir-dadAtu AchANDAla-patita-vAyasebhyaH svAhA ||

[Here he might insert the core oblations of the rite with the mantra of a specific deity.]

bhUr agnaye cha pR^ithivyai cha mahate cha svAhA bhuvo vAyave chAntarikShAya cha mahate cha svAhA suvar AdityAya cha dive cha mahate cha svAhA bhUr bhuvas suvash candramase ca nakShatrebhyash cha digbhyash cha mahate cha svAhA ||

He offers the final oblation with:
sapta te agne samidhas sapta jihvAs sapta R^iShayas sapta dhAma priyANi |
sapta hotrAs saptadhA tvA yajanti sapta yonIr A pR^iNasvA ghR^itena svAhA || [TS 1.5.3]

He shall put off the fire with the formula:

agne naya supathA rAye asmAn vishvAni deva vayunAni vidvAn |
yuyodhyasmaj-juhurANameno bhUyiShThAM te nama uktiM vidhema || [RV 1.189.1]
